[Flexradio] Flex Panadaptor used with Kenwood TS-870 successfully...sort of

A couple of days ago I heard a few hams discussing the connection of an SDR1000 to the 8.3 IF output of a Kenwood TS-870 and sucessfully viewing band activity when the SDR1000 was tuned to 8.3 Mhz. Has anyone ever heard of this application? I agree that this would make for a rather expensive option for other transceivers but if one could use a modified receiver like a SoftRock-40 instead of an SDR1000 it would make a rather attractive option.

Since the SDR1000 has to be tuned to 8.3 Mhz in order for this to work is there a way to make it display the TS-870 frequency correctly?Edwin MarzanAB2VW

I was one of the guys involved in the test. I do not own an 870 (yet) but
was suggesting to my friend to try it.
You need to set the Flex to 8.83 MHz and connect a cable from the TS-870 IF
Out 1 to the Flex ant in. The Flex will work as a panadapter display for
the 870.

The cable my friend used is an RCA male to PL-259 RG-58 cable.

Caution! - If running a Flex 1000, do not edit the tx band data to allow tx
on 8.83 MHz (you shouldn't be doing this anyway). The Flex 5000 firmware
will not allow tx on that frequency.

It is the same way classic panorama adapters are connected to
receivers. The bandwidth of te receiver (before the point where the
signal is tapped to the SDR1000) is the max usable span of the
panadapter.
I do not know how the signal is connected out of the TS850.
In the classic situation the signal is tapped of before the smal
bandwidth IF filters.
In modern receivers the roofing filter will limit the usable panadapter
width. What not gets trough the roofing filter will not become visible
on the panadapter.
